Heartleaf — in skincare

Heartleaf

Heartleaf is the extract of Houttuynia cordata, a soothing, antioxidant-rich plant used in Korean skincare for oily, breakout-prone and easily irritated skin. Long used in East Asian cooking, it is the signature ingredient of the Anua Heartleaf range.

What it does for skin

Heartleaf helps calm the look of redness and leaves skin feeling fresh rather than stripped. Its flavonoids, including quercetin, act as antioxidants, and it helps oily skin look more balanced. In a cleanser it makes daily washing gentler on reactive skin.

Who it suits

Oily, combination and breakout-prone skin that also turns red or reactive. It is mild enough for sensitive skin.

How to use it

At Baseshop, heartleaf comes mainly in cleansers. In the evening, massage a cleansing oil onto dry skin for about a minute, add water to emulsify and rinse, then use a heartleaf foam as the second cleanse. The foams also work in the morning.

Frequently asked

What is heartleaf (Houttuynia cordata) in skincare?

A plant extract valued as a soothing antioxidant. Korean brands use it to keep oily and reactive skin calm, and Anua built its best-known range around it.

Who is heartleaf for, and is it better than centella for redness?

Both soothe the look of redness. Choose heartleaf when redness comes with shine and congestion, and centella when it comes with dryness or sensitivity. If redness persists, see a doctor.

Can I combine heartleaf with BHA, niacinamide or retinol?

Yes. Heartleaf has no known conflicts, and Anua Heartleaf Quercetinol Cleansing Foam already pairs it with a mild BHA.

How fast does heartleaf work?

Skin feels refreshed straight away. A calmer look in oiliness and redness usually takes several weeks of regular use; from a cleanser, expect gentle support rather than a dramatic change.
