Oily Skin — skincare guide

Oily skin produces more sebum, so it needs light hydration, gentle oil control and regular, mild exfoliation to keep pores clear. Skipping moisturizer usually makes shine worse, not better.

Signs and needs

Shine appears on the forehead, nose and chin a few hours after washing, pores look larger, and blackheads and occasional breakouts are common. Oily skin can still be dehydrated, so it needs light, water-based hydration and balance, not harsh drying.

Key ingredients

Niacinamide and zinc help balance oil and the look of pores. BHA works inside pores to clear excess sebum and blackheads. Heartleaf, centella and tea tree help calm the look of redness. You will find them in Medicube Zero Pore, SKIN1004 Poremizing, Anua Heartleaf and Biodance niacinamide products. The shop has a separate page for each of these ingredients.

A simple routine

In the morning, wash with a gentle gel or foam cleanser. Use a balancing toner or toner pads with niacinamide or a mild BHA. Apply a light niacinamide serum, then a gel-cream or an oil-free moisturizer. Finish with a light, matte or fluid sunscreen SPF 50. In the evening, double cleanse with a cleansing oil and a foam, then repeat the same steps.

What to avoid

Skip alcohol-heavy toners, harsh scrubs and washing more than twice a day: over-dried skin can produce even more oil. Do not layer several exfoliating acids at once. If you are pregnant, ask your doctor before using BHA or retinol.

Frequently asked

Does oily skin need a moisturizer?

Yes. Without moisture, skin can feel tight and produce more oil. Choose a gel-cream or a light, water-based moisturizer with niacinamide, centella or hyaluronic acid.

Which sunscreen suits oily skin?

A light fluid, gel or matte-finish sunscreen SPF 50 that absorbs quickly. Apply it as the last morning step and reapply if you spend a long time outdoors.

Can enlarged pores be made smaller?

Pore size is mostly genetic, but clean pores look smaller. Regular BHA, niacinamide and clay masks reduce oil and blackheads, so pores become less visible.

Can I use a cleansing oil on oily skin?

Yes. Oil dissolves sebum, sunscreen and makeup, and a good cleansing oil rinses off completely. Anua Heartleaf Pore Control cleansing oil is a popular choice for oily skin; follow it with a gentle foam.
