Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin — in skincare
Astaxanthin is a red-orange carotenoid made by microalgae, the pigment that gives salmon and shrimp their colour. In skincare it is valued as one of the most powerful antioxidants.
What it does for skin
It helps defend skin against everyday stress from sun and pollution, so skin looks brighter and less tired. It works best alongside vitamin C, peptides or NAD+.
Who it suits
Dull, tired or mature-looking skin and anyone who wants extra antioxidant support. Astaxanthin itself is gentle, but spicule serums need a slow start.
How to use it
Apply after toner, with sunscreen on top in the morning. Start a spicule serum at two or three evenings a week, without retinol or acids on those nights.
Korean products with it at Baseshop
VT pairs astaxanthin with vitamin C in a Reedle Shot spicule serum, and Numbuzin adds it to a firming NAD+ essence with peptides. All are original Korean products, delivered within 24 hours in Yerevan.
Frequently asked
What is astaxanthin in skincare?
An antioxidant from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, added to help skin look brighter and more rested, usually alongside other actives.
Can I use astaxanthin with vitamin C or retinol?
Yes. Antioxidants work well together, and the VT serum already pairs astaxanthin with vitamin C. Use retinol on different evenings from spicule serums.
